Cardinals go for 19th straight win at home

BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University Cardinals go for their 19th straight home win when they host the Schreiner Mountaineers in a non-conference women's basketball game at 7 p.m. Monday in the Montagne Center.

The Cardinals (4-4) are 3-0 at home this season, outscoring their opponents by an average of 46 points per game. Monday's contest will be the first home game for the Cardinals since Nov. 21, when they rolled to a 101-37 victory over Howard Payne.

LU junior guard Chastadie Barrs continues to lead the nation steals, averaging 6.0 per game. The two-time defending Southland Conference defensive player of the year has at least one steal in all 69 games of her career. Barrs had 32 steals in LU's three home contests.

Moe Kinard leads the Cardinals in scoring, averaging 18.2 points per game. Barrs averages 14.1 points and a team-leading 6.6 assists per game, while Kiandra Bowers averages 10.0 points and a team-best 7.9 rebounds per game.

Bowers enters Monday's game with 1,022 points for her career, stands 13th on LU's all-time scoring list, just 13 points behind JaMeisha Edwards, who is 12th with 1,035 points. Bowers is eight all-time in rebounding at LU with 705. Brittney Williams is seventh with 716 boards.

Bowers, who reached the 1,000-point mark in a game vs. Northern Illinois on Nov. 25, will be honored for her accomplishment in a brief pregame ceremony on Monday.

Schreiner (1-3), which considers Monday's contest as an exhibition game, is a member of the Division III Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. The Mountaineers are led offensively by Kendall Dyal, who averages 8.5 points per game. Jordan Villa pulls down a team-leading 8.3 rebounds per game.

This is just the second-ever meeting between the two programs. LU posted a 60-41 win over Schreiner at the Montagne Center on Nov. 30, 2015.

Monday's game is the final non-conference home game of the season for the Cardinals. Following the contest against the Mountaineers, the Cardinals will take a break of a little more than two weeks before opening a three-game road swing. LU is at New Mexico on Dec. 20 in the final non-conference game of the season before opening Southland Conference play with games at Houston Baptist on Dec. 28 and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Dec. 30. LU's next home game is at 7 p.m. Jan. 3 against New Orleans.

Fans at Monday's game can get their picture taken for Santa Claus for free starting at 6:30 p.m.
