Cardinals drop five-point decision at Pacific

STOCKTON, Calif.Kiandra Bowers registered her 26th career double-double, but the Lamar University Cardinals dropped an 80-75 decision to the host Pacific Tigers in a non-conference women's basketball game Thursday night.
 
Bowers finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Cardinals (4-4). Moe Kinard led LU with 20 points. Bowers moved ahead of Cassie Brooks for 13th place on LU's all-time scoring list, ending the night with 1,022 career points. She now has 705 career rebounds, eighth all-time at LU.
 
GeAnna Luaulu-Summers led Pacific (4-2) with 24 points. Desire Finnie had 20 points for Pacific, which held a 43-39 rebounding edge.
 
The Cardinals had a 12-point lead early in the fourth quarter, but made just one of their final 10 field-goal attempts as the Tigers rallied for the win. LU pulled to within one point at 76-75 with 50 seconds remaining after Kinard hit a pair of free throws, but the Tigers scored the final four points of the contest to seal the win.
 
Jadyn Pimentel had 13 points for LU, while Kyla Green finished with 12 points. Chastadie Barrs had nine points, five assists and three steals. Barrs has at least one steal in all 69 games of her career.
 
The Cardinals trailed 21-15 after one quarter but rallied for a 35-33 lead at halftime. The Cardinals outscored Pacific 26-18 in the third quarter to take a 61-51 lead into the final stanza, where Pacific outscored LU 29-14. LU was just 4-of-15 (26.7 percent) from the field in the fourth quarter.
 
LU shot 39.1 percent (27-of-69) from the field for the game. The Cardinals were 5-of-20 (25 percent) from 3-point range and 16-of-25 (64 percent) from the line. Pacific shot 47 percent (31-of-66) from the field, but was just 3-of-16 (18.8 percent) from beyond the arc. The Tigers were 15-of-18 (83.3 percent) from the foul line.
 
The Cardinals return to Beaumont on Friday to prepare for Monday's 7 p.m. game vs. Schreiner at the Montagne Center. After that contest, the team takes a break for final exams before closing the non-conference schedule with a contest at New Mexico on Dec. 20. Santa will be available for pictures at Monday's game starting at 6:30 p.m.
