STOCKTON, Calif. – The Lamar University Cardinals go for their second straight win away from the Montagne Center when they meet the Pacific Tigers on Thursday. Tipoff is scheduled for 9 p.m. (Central) at the Alex G. Spanos Center in Stockton.
The Cardinals (4-3), who have been idle since an impressive 90-80 win over Northern Illinois, practiced at Pacific on Wednesday.
LU's
Moe Kinard was named the Southland Conference player of the week on Monday after averaging 22 points, seven rebounds and 3.7 steals as the Cardinals went 2-1 last week. She capped the week with 30 points and a career-high 13 rebounds in the win over Northern Illinois. It was Kinard's first honor this season and second of her career.
Kinard leads LU in scoring, averaging 17.8 points per game.
Chastadie Barrs is second in scoring at 14.9 points per game. Barrs, who has at least one steal in all 68 career games, leads the nation with an average of 6.43 steals per game. Barrs has 310 steals in her career, 23 shy of the all-time LU record of 333 set by Ramona Jones.
Meanwhile,
Kiandra Bowers, who eclipsed the 1,000-point plateau for her career in the victory over Northern Illinois, enters Thursday's game with 1,009 career points, one behind Cassie Brooks for 13
th place on the all-time LU list.
Thursday's game wraps up a six-game season-opening homestand for Pacific (3-2). The Tigers, a member of the West Coast Conference, dropped a 74-57 decision to visiting Brown on Saturday. Pacific has five players averaging in double figures in scoring, led by GeAnna Luaulu Summers, who averages 15.2 points per game.
"Pacific is a good team, and it will be a tough game because of the travel," LU coach
Robin Harmony said. "We need to carry over the confidence we gained in the win over Northern Illinois."
This is just the second time the two programs have met on the hardwood. The Cardinals were 75-54 winner over the Tigers on Dec. 6, 1991, in the first round of the Rice/Marriott Medical Center Classic in Houston.
The Cardinals return to Beaumont on Friday to prepare for Monday's 7 p.m. game vs. Schreiner at the Montagne Center. After that contest, the team takes a break for final exams before closing the non-conference schedule with a contest at New Mexico on Dec. 20. Santa will be available for pictures at Monday's game starting at 6:30 p.m.
