HUNTSVILLE, Texas –
Tomar Thomas had 11 kills, but the Lamar University Cardinals fell to the host Sam Houston State Bearkats in a Southland Conference women's volleyball match Thursday evening by scores of 25-15, 25-12, 25-22.
The Cardinals (4-20 overall, 2-12 Southland) couldn't overcome 22 attack errors on the evening, finishing with a hitting percentage of .050. LU had just 27 kills for the match.
Murielle Hlavac had a solid game for the Cardinals, compiling seven kills and a team-high nine digs.
Zahria Scott also had nine digs for LU, while
Haley Morton had 26 assists.
The Cardinals built an early 9-6 lead in the first set, but could not sustain the momentum, committing nine errors in the opening set as the Bearkats (14-12, 10-3) took control.
The Cardinals and Bearkats were tied at 6 in the second set before Sam Houston State went on a 9-1 run to take total command of the set as it took a 2-0 lead in sets into the break.
The Cardinals roared out of the locker room after intermission, building a 15-9 lead, but the Bearkats ended any hope of an LU comeback with an 11-1 run to grab a 20-16 lead. The Cardinals would get no closer than two points the rest of the way.
Brooke White had a double-double for the Bearkats, finishing with 10 kills and 10 digs. Jordyn Vaughn had a match-high 14 kills, while Addison Miller had 13 digs.
The Cardinals return to action at 1 p.m. Saturday when they travel to Abilene Christian to meet the Wildcats in a Southland Conference match.
