Amy Hollowell and
Haley Morton had strong efforts in their final match in a Lamar University uniform, but the Cardinals fell to host Stephen F. Austin in straight sets in a Southland Conference women's volleyball match on Saturday afternoon.
Hollowell had a team-high 14 digs to go along with a .600 hitting percentage, while Morton was credited with a team-best 24 assists, but the Cardinals (4-22 overall, 2-14 Southland) couldn't prevent the Ladyjacks (26-6, 14-2) from wrapping up the conference's regular-season crown by sweeping the Cardinals 25-23, 25-16, 25-21.
Tomar Thomas had 10 kills for LU, which missed out on the conference tournament for the sixth straight season.
Murielle Hlavac had five kills and 13 digs for the Cardinals.
The Ladyjacks had a .277 hitting percentage as a team on the afternoon, hitting .325 and .317 in the first two sets, respectively, while the Cardinals hit just .144 as a team. Danae Daron had 11 kills for SFA, while teammate Peyton Redmond had 10 kills and one attack error on 21 attempts for a .429 hitting percentage. Ann Hollas had 33 assists and 14 digs for the Ladyjacks. SFA's Lexus Cain had a match-high 16 digs.
LU looked like it would send the match to a fourth set after taking a 17-15 lead in the third set, but an 8-1 SFA run ended LU's hopes for a comeback bid.
The Cardinals end the season tied for 11
th place in the 13-team conference.
