BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University women's basketball team travels to Buffalo, N.Y., to close out the road portion of their non-conference schedule when they face the Canisius Golden Griffins at noon Saturday. The game will be streamed on ESPN3.
The Cardinals (2-3) are looking for their first road win of the season in four tries, while the Golden Griffins (1-3) are 0-2 on their home court. LU comes in off a 75-60 home victory over Northern Arizona on Wednesday.
"We have proven we can win at home, now we have to show that we can win on the road," LU coach
Robin Harmony said. "That's a tough thing for a young team to do."
LU's three road losses have all been to teams from power conferences that advanced to national postseason tournaments last year (Oregon State, Oregon and Kansas State).
"We played those strong teams to make us better," Harmony said. "We learned and got better after each of those games. Now we have to put those lessons to use."
Moe Kinard leads LU in scoring, averaging 14.8 points per game. Kinard had a career-high 21 points in Wednesday's victory over Northern Arizona.
Kiandra Bowers, who had 18 points vs. Northern Arizona, is second on the team in scoring at 12.4 points per game while averaging a team-leading 8.8 rebounds per game.
LU's
Chastadie Barrs leads the nation with 21 steals, while Bowers is 10
th nationally with 17 steals.
Canisius, which is on a two-game skid, is led offensively by Lauren D'Hont, who averages 14.5 points per game.
LU coach
Robin Harmony is looking for her 50
th win at the helm of the Cardinals. Overall, Harmony is 182-96 as a head coach.
Canisius leads the all-time series with LU. The Golden Griffins were 57-55 winners over the Cardinals last year at the Montagne Center.
