Feb. 20, 2015RUSTON, La. – Shannon Sain and Stephanie Meeuwsen each had four hits on the day, but the Lamar Lady Cardinals dropped both ends of a non-conference softball doubleheader at Louisiana Tech on Friday by scores of 12-0 and 10-6.

Meeuwsen had two of Lamar's four hits in the opener, as the Lady Cardinals were unable to climb out of a 7-0 hole after the first inning. Sarah Ragsdale and Sain had the other hits for Lamar.

Krysta Tutsch had a three-run home run in that first inning of the opener for Louisiana Tech. Janine Godwin added a two-run homer in the fourth for the Lady Techsters.

In the nightcap, Lamar held a 2-1 lead heading to the bottom of the third before Louisiana Tech erupted for seven runs. The Lady Cardinals made it close by scoring three runs in the top of the seventh.

Sain had three of Lamar's 12 hits in the second game. Meeuwsen, Casey Cromwell and Corina Thornton added two hits apiece for Lamar (3-8). Cromwell and Marissa LeJune homered for Lamar. Pauline Tufi homered twice for Louisiana Tech (9-5).

Lauren Dannelley (1-4) started and took the loss for Lamar in the opener, while starter Laura Napoli (2-4) took the loss in the second game.

“Our pitching let us down,” Lamar coach Holly Bruder said. “We outhit them in the second game.”

Lamar looks to snap its six-game skid when it travels to the University of Texas for a five-game tournament next weekend. After that, the Lady Cardinals open the brand-new Lamar Softball Complex by hosting Houston Baptist in a doubleheader at 3 p.m. March 6.

“We're getting to the meat of our schedule. We need our players to be hitting their stride,” Bruder said. “We're going to keeping working to get better before conference play starts.”
