BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University women's basketball team looks for its first road win of the season when it travels to Chicago to meet the Loyola Chicago Ramblers in a non-conference game at 3 p.m. Saturday. That game will be shown live on
ESPN3.
The Cardinals return home to host Schreiner University at 7 p.m. Monday in the Montagne Center. These will be the first-ever meetings between LU and both Loyola Chicago and Schreiner.
The Cardinals (1-3) have faced a gantlet of tough road opponents, suffering losses to Oklahoma State of the Big 12, Utah of the Pac 10 and Northern Arizona of the Big Sky Conference.
"We knew we had a tough road schedule to start the season," LU coach
Robin Harmony said. "We're a young team and we haven't responded as well as I hoped we would. Hopefully, we can turn it around."
Freshman guard
Chastadie Barrs continues to lead LU in scoring (13.5 ppg), rebounding (7.0 rpg), assists (20) and steals (18). Barrs has scored in double figures in three of LU's four games this season. Barrs is tied for fifth in the nation, averaging 4.50 steals per game. Senior guards
JaMeisha Edwards and
Addesha Collins are each averaging 11.0 and 4.5 rebounds per game for the Cardinals.

th in the nation in 3-point field-goal percentage defense, holding opponents to a 19.6 percent success rate (10-of-51). The Cardinals are 36
th in steals (12.5 per game) and 38
th in turnover margin at +6.25.
Loyola Chicago is 1-3 on the seasonafter a 68-59 home loss to Central Michigan on Wednesday. The Ramblers, a member of the Missouri Valley Conference, are led by Taylor Manuel, who averages 20.0 points per game. Taylor Johnson (13.7) and Sam Lambrigsten (12.5) also average in double figures in scoring. The Ramblers are coached by women's basketball legend Sheryl Swoopes.
The Cardinals play their second home game of the season when the Schreiner University Mountaineers pay a visit to Beaumont on Monday. Schreiner is 0-5 heading into the weekend. The Mountaineers, a member of the Division III Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, play games Friday and Saturday at the TLU Classic in Seguin, Texas, before facing the Cardinals on Monday.
Schreiner, which considers the game against LU as an exhibition contest, is led by Kelsie Jackson, who is averaging 10.4 points per game.
"It will be nice to get back home in front of our fans," Harmony said. "They're always very supportive."
