ORLANDO, Fla. – A strong pitching performance from Shannon Millman went for naught as the Lamar Lady Cardinals dropped a 2-1 decision to Fairfield to finish 0-2 on the first day of the Citrus Classic Softball Series on Friday.
Millman (0-3) pitched a complete game, scattering six hits and allowing just one earned run.
Earlier in the day, Lamar dropped a 9-1 decision to Mercer.
“Shannon was stellar,” Lamar coach Holly Bruder said. “Unfortunately, we just didn't hit the ball. It's hard to win when you score just one run a game.”
Lamar (0-5) had just three hits in each game.
“It's disappointing,” Bruder said. “We have to turn things around.”
Lamar faces Lehigh and IPFW on Saturday before closing out the event with a game against Albany on Sunday.
“It doesn't get any easier,” Bruder said. Lehigh and IPFW are very good teams.”
