Roberts Named to Sports Network All-America Team

Dec. 25, 2014

BEAUMONT, Texas - Lamar senior receiver Mark Roberts has been named to the 2014 FCS All-America team announced FCS Executive Director Craig Haley. Roberts received third-team recognition, and was the only Southland Conference receiver named to the three-team squad. It is the second All-America squad that Roberts has been named to this season.

"We are all very proud of what Mark has accomplished during his time at Lamar," said head coach Ray Woodard. "He has done everything that we have asked of him. This is a well deserved honor for Mark."

There was a lot of hype surrounding Roberts entering the 2014 season. Named to a lot of preseason watch lists, the Orange, Texas native lived up to the hype by recording one of the best seasons by a receiver in school history and rewriting the record books.

Roberts became the first receiver in Cardinals history to record 1,000 receiving yards in a single season. That mark was overshadowed by the fact that Roberts became the school's all-time leader in touchdown receptions in only two years with the program.

Roberts recorded the TD record in dramatic fashion. Needing three touchdowns to tie the record coming into Lamar's game against Houston Baptist, the senior hauled in five passes for 208 yards and four scores against the Huskies to set the standard. Making those numbers even more impressive was the fact that Roberts caught all five passes before halftime, and didn't play in the second half. He ended the year hauling in 46 passes for 1,157 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Roberts' numbers ranked him among the nation's elite in several categories. He lead the conference and finished 11th in the nation in receiving yards, and was tied for seventh in touchdown catches. Roberts wrapped up his two-year career with 79 receptions for 1,795 yards and 21 touchdowns.
