BEAUMONT, Texas - Lamar volleyball's senior defensive specialist
Megan Schwartz was named first team Academic All-District VII announced the College Sports Information Directors of America on Thursday, and now moves on to the Capital One Academic All-American ballot.
The Tomball, Texas (Klein Oak) native, is second on the team in digs per set (2.96) and total digs (319), and has played in 72 sets this season. Schwartz boasts a 4.00 grade point average with a major in criminal justice and social work.
She ranks sixth all-time in Lamar's records books in digs with 1,348, and was the 15th member of the Lady Cards' 1,000-dig club. The senior has played in 394 sets in her career for a 3.42 digs per set average.
Schwartz is a repeat All-District honoree after her selection to the team last season. She is a three-time Southland Conference All-Academic selection.
CoSIDA recognizes students who achieve success on both the field and in the classroom. Since the All-America program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has honored more than 20,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
Also on the first team with Schwartz is Avery Acker (Southern Methodist), Nicole Bardaji (Baylor), Valerie El Houssine (Tulsa), Paige Holland (Stephen F. Austin) and Dempsey Thornton (UTSA). On the second team was Kayla Armer (Houston Baptist), Neely Borger (Abilene Christian), Breeann David (Texas Tech), Jill Ivy (SFA) and Shelby Sullivan (Texas A&M).
Nicholls' Kalynn Egea, who was named to the District 6 team, gave the Southland Conference six members on the roster.
She and Erika Rojas will be honored on Saturday at 1 o'clock as a part of Senior Day festivities at McDonald Gym. The Lady Cardinals will be hosting Southeastern Louisiana.
