BEAUMONT, Texas - Lisa Topping scored two goals and assisted on another to lead the Lamer University women's soccer team to a 4-0 win over Southern in a non-conference game Friday evening.
Topping scored her two goals just 4:21 apart late in the second half, as the Lady Cardinals (2-3-1) broke open a close game with three goals in a span of 5:31 in the final 13 minutes of the game.
"We played well," Lamar coach Dewi Hardman said. "But we have to play more clinically and take advantage of the opportunities in front of the goal."
Lamar outshot Southern (0-3-0) 38-3 for the game, and held a 15-1 advantage in shots on goal. However, Lamar misfired on a number of glorious scoring opportunities, and was also thwarted on several occasions by Southern goalkeeper Sarah Forde, who finished with 11 saves.
Kimmy Albeno and Lauren Hicks also scored for Lamar. Jennifer Gibbs was called upon to make just one save for her second shutout of the season.
Lamar returns to action at 1 p.m. Sunday when it hosts Texas Southern in a non-conference game at the Lamar Soccer Complex.
