HAMMOND, La. - Jennifer Gibbs made five saves for her fifth shutout of the season to lead the Lamar University women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over host Southeastern Louisiana in a Southland Conference game Friday.
Gibbs made her best save of the game in the 72nd minute, sliding to stop Karly Dagys from in close. Lamar (5-5-1 overall, 2-0-0 Southland) broke the scoreless tie with 14:58 remaining as Rachelle Barry lofted a long shot over the outstretched arms of Southeastern Louisiana goalkeeper Cassie Northrup.
"Jennifer made a great save to keep the game scoreless," Lamar coach Dewi Hardman said. "After we scored we did a great job and did not give up any chances."
Northrup made four saves for the Lady Lions (8-3-1, 2-1-0), who are the defending regular-season champions.
"This is the biggest win for us because they are the reigning conference champions," Hardman said. "We are excited to be where we are, 2-0 in conference with two road wins."
Lamar returns to action at 1 p.m. Sunday with a Southland Conference game at Nicholls.
