BEAUMONT, Texas - Rachelle Barry's second-half goal snapped a 1-1 tie and lifted the Lamar University women's soccer team to a 2-1 win over visiting Central Arkansas in a Southland Conference game Friday night.

Barry took a long pass from Lamar goalkeeper Jennifer Gibbs and blasted a shot past Central Arkansas goalkeeper Kelsey Gochnauer for her second game-winning goal of the season.

"Rachelle's goal was a great goal," Lamar coach Dewi Hardman said. "It got us right back in the lead."

Barry's goal came just 2:28 after Cassie Lange had tied the game for Central Arkansas. Both second-half goals came with Lamar down a player after Lorna Maudslay was issued a red card.

"It's a very gratifying win," Hardman said. "I shows great organization and determination on our part to pick up the slack when we were a player down."

Lisa Hance scored in the first half for Lamar (8-7-2 overall, 5-2-1 conference). Gibbs made three saves for the win. The Lady Cardinals are tied with UTSA for third place in the conference with one game remaining. Lamar held a 22-11 advantage in shots over Central Arkansas (5-10-2, 1-6-1).

"We still have a chance for third place," Hardman said. "That shows we're on our way."

Lamar wraps up the regular season Sunday by hosting Northwestern State at 1 p.m. UTSA is at Southeastern Louisiana at 1 p.m. Sunday in its finale. Lamar and UTSA have already clinched spots in next week's Southland Conference Tournament.
