Box Score

ARLINGTON - UT Arlington's Amanda Aguilera put down 14 kills Saturday afternoon at Texas Hall to lead the host Mavericks to a 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-13) Southland Conference volleyball victory over Lamar University.

Lamar, which fell at Texas State 3-1 on Thursday, will continue Southland road action at McNeese State this Thursday evening at 7. With the loss, Lamar falls to 4-15 overall and 2-2 in conference play, while the Mavs improved to 7-11 on the year with a 3-1 league mark.

While the Lady Cardinals were able to keep pace with the Mavs in kills, it was attack errors that hurt them on Saturday. UTA finished with 38 kills, only 11 attack errors and a .297 attack percentage, while Lamar recorded 37 kills but just a .127 attack percentage thanks to 23 attack errors.

LU jumped out to a 10-5 lead in the first set, only to see the Mavs go on a 6-1 run to tie the set at 11. UTA would take a 14-13 lead and never trail again in winning the set 25-20.

Set two stayed close the whole way and was tied at 17 after an Aguilera kill pulled the Mavs even with Lamar. UTA would score the next three points to pull ahead 20-17, and go on to win the set 25-22. The Mavs rolled in the third set, winning 25-13 to close the match.

Both teams finished with four total blocks on defense, but UTA enjoyed a 4-1 advantage in service aces and took advantage of eight LU service errors.

Megan McStravick and Sierra Whittaker each put down eight kills to lead Lamar, but the duo also combined for 10 attack errors. Junior middle blocker Christina Hobbs added seven kills, a solid .312 attack percentage and one block assist.

Defensively, Cynthia McCollum led LU with 11 digs. Freshman setter Madi Martin added three total blocks, four kills and a .444 attack percentage.

Tara Frantz finished with 11 kills for UTA, committing just one attack error and hitting a stellar .500 for the match. Alicia Shaffer recorded a game-high 16 digs for the Mavs.
