Lady Cards Fall to Islanders

March 3, 2010

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - A record-setting night for Brittney Williams ended in disappointment for the Lamar University women's basketball team Wednesday night.

Williams played in her 118th career game, setting the Lamar standard, but the Lady Cardinals dropped a 79-64 decision to the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders in a Southland Conference game.

Darika Hill had 19 points and eight rebounds for Lamar (22-7, 12-3), Williams had 11 points and seven rebounds and Kalis Loyd had 10 points for the Lady Cardinals.

Jade Davis had 22 points for Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (19-9, 11-4), while Elisa Beagle had a double-double of 20 points and 13 rebounds. Shaye Montgomery added 12 points for the Islanders, who held a 52-35 rebounding edge.

Despite the loss, Lamar can still earn the top seed in the upcoming State Farm Southland Conference Basketball Tournament with a victory over visiting Nicholls at 2:05 p.m. at the Montagne Center.

Lamar never led Wednesday, as it was unable to overcome a poor shooting performance in the first half. The Lady Cardinals were just 10-of-35 (28.6 percent) from the field in the first half.

Lamar was 5-of-21 (23.8 percent) from 3-point range for the game.

Tickets for Saturday's game are available at the Montagne Center box office, online at www.lamarcardinals.com or by calling (409) 880-1715.
