BEAUMONT, Texas - - Trashanna Smith's first double-double of the season powered the Lamar University women's basketball team to a convincing 98-41 win over visiting Wiley College in a non-conference game at the Montagne Center on Thursday evening.
Smith had 10 points and 12 rebounds to go along with five blocked shots, three assists and three steals as Lamar (9-3) posted its largest margin of victory on the season.
Kalis Loyd had a game-high 22 points for Lamar and added a career-high seven assists as the Lady Cardinals ran their winning streak at the Montagne Center to 19 games. Lamar has won 27 consecutive home games against non-conference foes.
"We did just about everything well tonight," Lamar coach Larry Tidwell said. "We came out a little bit sluggish, but that's to be expected when you haven't played in 11 days."
Jenna Plumley had 14 points for the Lady Cardinals, Danielle Heithoff had 11 points and Monique Whittaker added 1 1points for Lamar.
Lamar dominated from the start, racing out to a 46-11 lead at intermission. Lamar's defense forced Wiley to commit 31 turnovers, 22 in the first half. Lamar also held a 54-34 rebounding advantage.
Jamey Ellis came off the bench to lead Wiley with 11 points. Wiley, an NAIA school, considered this game as an exhibition contest, and did not count in their season record, which was 4-7 entering the game.
Lamar returns to action at noon Sunday when it travels to Rice for a non-conference game. The Lady Cardinals close out the non-conference portion of the schedule when they host Houston at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
