Lady Cards vanquish Valpo

Nov. 20, 2010

BEAUMONT, Texas - Jenna Plumley had 14 points to lead five Lamar scorers in double figures as the Lady Cardinals won their consolation bracket of the Preseason WNIT with a 74-58 victory over visiting Valparaiso at the Montagne Center on Saturday afternoon.

Ang Green had 12 points for Lamar (2-1), Jasmin Henderson had 11 points off the bench, while Monique Whittaker and Kalis Loyd had 10 points apiece for the Lady Cardinals, who stretched their homecourt winning streak to 15 games over the past two seasons.

Betsy Adams led Valparaiso (1-2) with 15 points, while Ashley Timmerman added 10 points.

Valpo stayed close to Lamar for much of the game. The contest was tied at 30 at halftime, and Lamar led by just four points, 55-51, with 9:15 remaining in the second half before breaking the game open with an 11-0 run. Whittaker scored six consecutive points during that streak to fuel the outburst.

"We beat a very good team today," said Lamar coach Larry Tidwell, who coached his 100th game for Lamar. "I'm very happy with the outcome."

The Lady Cardinals held a 41-32 rebounding advantage for the game. Trashanna Smith led LU in rebounding with eight.

Lamar returns to action at 7 p.m. Tuesday when it hosts LSU-Shreveport in a non-conference game at the Montagne Center. For ticket information, visit www.LamarCardinals.com, or call (409) 880-1715.
