HUNTSVILLE - Lamar University dropped a key Southland Conference volleyball match to Sam Houston State on Thursday night from Johnson Coliseum in a match that could go a long way toward determining the seeding for next week's SLC Tournament.
The Lady Cardinals lost the contest 3-0 and now stand at 12-14 overall and 8-7 in the SLC. SHSU, which will host the SLC Tournament starting on Nov. 19, moves into a tie with Lamar at 8-7 and now own the tiebreaker.
After dropping the first two sets 25-20 and 25-22, the Lady Cardinals look to extend the match in the third set. After falling behind 20-16 in the third, LU battled back, tied it at 22 and a lead at 26-25. However, the Lady Cards could not close the set and eventually fell by a 30-28 score.
Lamar managed just 31 kills and a .057 attack percentage, while the Bearkats finished with 45 kills and a .179 attack percentage.
Sophomore Jayme Bazile and redshirt freshman Sierra Whittaker each finished with seven kills for Lamar. Bazile also had one block solo and seven block assists.
Carli Kolbe led SHSU with 16 kills, but she also had 14 attack errors and hit just .040 for the match. Kolbe led the team with a match-high 13 digs.
Lamar will close out its 2010 regular season on Saturday evening at 6 at Stephen F. Austin.
