Oct. 14, 2010

Box Score

BEAUMONT - Southland Conference leader Central Arkansas ran its conference winning streak to 30 matches on Thursday night at McDonald Gym as the Sugar Bears picked up a 3-0 volleyball victory over host Lamar University.

The Lady Cardinals have now lost two straight SLC matches and stand at 8-10 overall and 4-3 in conference play. Lamar will look to pick up an important league win on Saturday afternoon at 1 when Northwestern State visits McDonald Gym.

UCA, which has not lost an SLC match since the 2008 season, improved to 18-6 on the year and a perfect 8-0 in conference action.

Lamar had its chances on Thursday night, but could not generate enough offense in falling by scores of 25-23, 25-21 and 25-20. The Lady Cardinals finished the match with only 28 kills as compared to UCA's 45.

Freshman outside hitter Megan McStravick continues to be a bright spot for Lamar as she led the team with eight kills and compiled a sparkling .429 attack percentage. For much of the first two sets, McStravick was the only LU hitter that was productive.

Sophomore middle blocker Jayme Bazile, who did not get the start on Thursday, came off the bench to record seven kills and a .500 attack percentage. She did not, however, produce a single block on the evening as Lamar finished with just three total blocks as a team.

Taylor Hammonds and Jessica Hays led the Sugar Bears offensively as each tallied 13 kills. Freshman setter Marissa Collins, who leads the SLC in assists, added to that total with 39, while also chipping in with seven digs.
