HAMMOND, La. -- Justin Nabors recorded his seventh double-double of the season but its wasn't enough as Lamar fell to Southeastern Louisiana, 78-56, in the Southland Conference opener for both teams at the University Center Saturday.
Nabors finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds for Lamar (8-8, 0-1 SLC), which had its season-best four-game win streak snapped. Kendrick Harris had 10 points and three assists for the Cards.
With Southeastern leading 8-7, the Lions went on an 11-0 run to take a 19-7 lead with 12:26 in the half. A short while later, Lamar trimmed the margin to six, at 22-16, following a 6-0 run with 8:49 in the period. But the Lions went on a second long run, this time a 10-1 stretch before going into the locker room with a 41-24 lead.
The Cardinals weren't able to get he lead any closer the remainder of the game as they shot 35 percent from the floor and were just 2-of-12 from outside. LU did hold a 34-26 rebounding edge and had 11 second-chance points off 18 offensive boards.
Southeastern (9-5, 1-0) had four players in double figures, led by Damon Forest's game-igh 24 thanks in large part to his four 3-pointers. Patrick Sullivan went over 1,000 career points as he finished with 14 points, five rebounds and five blocks.
The Lions shot 61 percent from the floor and were 10-of-18 from behind the arc.
Lamar will return home for a two-game homestand, beginning Wednesday against UT Arlington (7-6, 0-1). Tip-off at the Montagne Center is set for 7:05 p.m.
