The Lamar women's soccer team played Grambling to a 2-2 tie in the final game of the Lamar Soccer Classic at the Lamar Soccer Complex Sunday afternoon.
Lamar (1-7-1) took a school-record 45 shots but were only able to capitalize on two as they moved to 0-2-2 all-time in overtime contests. Grambling (3-6-1) took eight shots with five on goal.
Lisa Hance set a single-game record with 12 shots, breaking the previous mark of seven, which was held by herself, Beth Squires and Aline Pugliesi.
Grambling scored first when Ashley Baker got hold of a ball off a rebound in front of the LU net and slipped it past a diving Jennifer Gibbs in the 16th minute.
That was how it stood for the remainder of the first half. But then Lamar's coaching staff urged the Lady Cardinals to start working harder in the attacking third to create more opportunities.
And that's exactly what they did.
LU outshot Grambling 22-3 in the second half as they tied the game at 1-1 on Squires' long ball that floated over Lady Tiger goalie Cherie Silas and into the goal. Her score came off a Kari Davila pass at the 55:03 mark.
But Grambling capitalized on a Lamar defensive miscue less than a minute later as Rachele Dobbins beat Gibbs in the box after stealing it from a Lady Cardinal defender moments earlier.
Lamar tied the game at 2-2 in the 78th minute when Lisa Topping netted her third goal of the season as she hit a one-timer from Brittany Ross near the left corner of the 18-yard box pas Silas.
Lamar outshot Grambling 10-1 in the two overtime periods before time ran out. LU also took a school-record 10 corner kicks.
Gibbs finished with three saves and Silas stopped 12 of Lamar's 14 shots on goal.
Lamar will return to action next weekend when they play host to Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston State for matches Friday at 5 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
