HOUSTON -- Adrianne Meengs posted her first triple-double of the season but it wasn't enough to lift Lamar past Cal State Bakersfield as the Lady Cardinals lost the title match at Sharp Gym Saturday.
Meengs finished with 10 kills, 10 digs and 41 assists as eh notched her sixth career triple-double. She was named the Husky Classic Most Valuable Player for her efforts in Lamar's three matches.
LU fell behind by two sets after losing 26-24 and 25-21 before mounting a rally to tie the match up with 25-19, 25-23 scores in the third and fourth sets. But after leading 10-8 in the fifth, Bakersfield went on a 5-0 run to take a 13-10 lead before closing out the match at 15-11.
"With as many young kids as we have, I was pleased with how we have played through the first few weeks of the season," LU head coach Justin Gibert said. "Today we were down 2-0 and came back which showed a lot of character."
The Lady Cards outhit the Runners .221-.196 and collected 12 team blocks, giving them 81 in nine matches.
Jayme Bazile had seven blocks for the third-straight match and collected 13 kills. Lauren Holdorff joined Meengs on the all-tournament team after posting nine kills and three block assists on Saturday.
Lamar dropped to 4-5 on the season and will return to action next weekend at the Sam Houston State Invitational. Friday's match against SHSU at 7 p.m. will be the first Southland Conference match of the season for both teams.
