OREM, Utah - Lamar's shooting touch went cold in the second half and allowed Utah Valley to pull away for a 71-55win at the McKay Event Center Monday.
Utah Valley (12-9) got 32 points from Ryan Toolson and shot 47 percent in the game. Jourdain Scoubes had 11 and Justin Baker added 10 off the bench.
Lamar (12-11) was led by Ashton Hall who finished with 11 points and a career-high eight rebounds. Brandon McThay had nine on three 3-pointers and Anthony Miles eight and five boards.
The Cardinals shot just 32 percent in the game with its worst stretch coming early in the second half. LU missed its first six shot attempts. But despite that were only down eighth following Jay Brown's basket that made it 41-33 with 15:55 left. But UV used a 13-5 run to stretch its lead to 54-38 at the midway point of the second half.
Lamar used a 10-0 run early in the first half to take a 19-15 lead with 9:19 left. UV responded with a 17-1 run that had three 3-pointers to take a 33-20 advantage with 3:29 left in the half. Lamar closed the period on a 5-0 spurt to pull within single-digits, 37-29, at the break.
