BEAUMONT. Texas - Kalis Loyd and Jenna Plumley each registered double-doubles to lead the Lamar University women's basketball team to an 82-66 non-conference victory over visiting Rice University on Sunday.
Plumley had 16 points and 10 assists while Loyd finished with 14 points and a game-high 11 rebounds as Lamar (9-3) closed out the 2009 portion of its schedule.
Lamar's Darika Hill led all scorers with 18 points to go along with eight rebounds. Brittney Williams added 11 points off the bench for the Lady Cardinals, who improved to 4-0 at home this season.
Lamar was 28-of-32 from the foul line for the game, with its 87.5 percentage from the stripe its best of the season. The Lady Cardinals outrebounded the Owls 49-35.
Morgan Mayse led Rice (2-7) with 17 points and six rebounds. Tara Watts had 13 points and Jessica Goswitz finished with 10 points for the Owls, who saw their two-game winning streak snapped.
"I thought we played well today," Lamar coach Larry Tidwell said. "We did a good job rebounding and playing with intensity for the whole game."
Lamar is isle until Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, when it hosts LSU-Shreveport at 4:05 p.m. in the Montagne Center.
