ARLINGTON, Texas -- Lamar started strong with a convincing first set win but wasn't able to maintain the momentum as UT Arlington claimed the next three sets for a 3-1 win at Texas Hall Saturday evening.
Lamar (13-12, 8-6 Southland) hit just .135 for the match after opening the day with a .333 clip en route to a 25-11 opening set win in which they never trailed.
UT Arlington took the second set, 25-23, after the teams combined for had 14 ties and seven lead changes in a set that neither team led by more than two points. LU led 22-21 before a pair of UTA kills and one of their two service aces gave the Mavs a 24-22 advantage.
Lamar held a slim 20-19 lead late in the pivotal third set before Tara Frantz sparked UTA with five kills to guide the Mavs to a 25-21 victory.
The Mavs used a 9-3 run in the final set to erase a 12-11 Lady Cardinal lead that put UT Arlington in front for good before clinching the match with a 25-17 score.
Wendy Krell led Lamar with 11 kills on .476 hitting, while adding three aces and four blocks.
Jayme Bazile recorded seven kills and six blocks as she went over the 100-block mark for the season, becoming the third player in head coach Justin Gibert's five years at Lamar to reach the century mark, joining Buchi Okoh and Molli Abel.
Adrianne Meengs handed out 39 assists to go along with 10 digs, five blocks and four kills.
Lamar tallied seven aces and combined for 10.5 blocks.
UTA (11-15, 7-7 SLC) had three players record double-digit kills, led by Amanda Aguilera's match-high 14. The Mavs also had 11 blocks and hit .204 as a team.
Lamar will wrap up the regular-season at Northwestern State and Central Arkansas next Thursday and Saturday, respectively, before heading to San Antonio for the 2009 Southland Conference Tournament the following week.
