Box Score

SAN MARCOS, Texas -- The Lamar volleyball team suffered one of its worst offensive nights of the season and lost a heartbreaker to a red-hot Texas State team, 3-2, at Strahan Coliseum Thursday night.

Despite hitting just .140, Lamar (13-11, 8-5 Southland) fought back from a 2-0 deficit to force a fifth set. But it was a 5-1 TSU run in the deciding frame that allowed the home team to go ahead 8-3 before closing out the match with a 15-9 win.

Lamar senior setter Adrianne Meengs posted her third triple-double of the season with 12 kills, 29 assists and 12 digs. Senior Kaci Brewer had 13 kills and 16 digs to record her third-straight double-double and fifth overall.

"I thought Adrianne played great and Kaci continued her hot play of late," Lamar head coach Justin Gibert said.

Texas State (16-12, 10-3 SLC) won its seventh-consecutive match after hitting .205 with 64 kills in a match that featured two of the top three hitting teams in the league. Mo Middleton led the Bobcats with 15 kills, five aces and three block assists, while Jessica Weynand had a double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs to go along with two blocks and the team's other two service aces on the night.

"It was a tough place to play and they put together a better offensive effort," Gibert said. "We showed a lot of character to comeback from being down 2-0 but we need to do that from the start."

Lamar fell behind after set scores of 25-17 and 25-19 before the intermission. LU came out in the third set and never trailed en route to a 25-18 win.

The fourth set was a back-and-forth affair with 10 ties and three lead changes. In fact, five of the ties and all of the lead changes came over the final 20 points. The Lady Cards fought off two match points before a 6-2 run gave them the win at 28-26.

Lamar will look to regroup on Saturday when it faces UT Arlington (10-15, 6-7 SLC) at Texas Hall in Arlington. First serve is set for 4 p.m.
