NATCHITOCHES, La. - Lamar posted one of its best defensive outings of the year and Jayme Bazile led all players with 10 kills to go along with six blocks as the Lady Cardinals swept Northwestern State in straight sets by scores of 25-20, 25-20, and 25-14 at Prather Coliseum Thursday night.
Lamar (14-12, 9-6 Southland) snapped a two-match losing streak and assured itself of the No. 4 seed in next week's SLC Tournament.
LU posted 11 team blocks and held NSU (3-20, 2-13) to .101 hitting. The Lady Cards put up a .229 hitting percentage and outdug the Lady Demons by a 43-38 margin. Lamar's 45 kills tied the season high in a 3-set match, while the blocks total are its second-most in a league match this year.
"We worked as hard on defense all week as I can remember and it paid off as our level of aggressiveness picked up tonight," head coach Justin Gibert said. "We passed great and our serve receive was flawless which gave Adrianne Meengs a lot of options on offense."
Lamar trailed just twice all match, coming in the first few points of the third set.
Bazile had a career-high four block solos, while Meengs hit .800 with eight kills to go along with 25 kills and 1.5 blocks. Cynthia McCollum and Lauren Holdorff each had eight winners.
