SFA Defeats Lamar, 3-0

Lamar was unable to close out Stephen F. Austin in the early going and eventually suffered a 3-0 loss at McDonald Gym Saturday afternoon.

Freshman Wendy Krell continued her strong offensive play with a match-high 14 kills on 22 swings for a. 545 hitting pct. She combined for 28 winners and a .489 pct over eight sets this week.

Lamar (11-10, 6-4 Southland) hit .179 and committed nine service aces.

SFA (17-10, 6-3) got 11 kills and 10 digs from Kelsey Owens and eight from Mary Caitlin Bottles. They also hit .306 and recorded four team blocks.

With Lamar leading 21-15 in the opening set, SFA went on a 10-2 run to claim early momentum. The lady Cardinals committed four of their eight attack errors in the set during that stretch.

The second set was a back-and-forth battle with 12 ties and seven lead changes. The Ladyjacks took the set 25-22 following a Lamar service error and two aces by Madison Hanlan to score the final three points.

The Lady Cards never were able to get going in the third after the Ladyjacks opened the set with four-consecutive points. SFA led by as many as nine on four occasions - with the last coming at 22-13 - before clinching the match 25-17.

Lamar will continue its homestand next weekend when it plays host to A&M-Corpus Christi on Friday at 7 p.m. and UTSA on Saturday at 3 p.m.
