BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) - Brandon McThay scored 17 points and Lamar University defeated Louisiana College 105-72 on Saturday night.

Using a strong interior scoring game, the Cardinals (1-0) took an early lead and headed to halftime up 26 points.

Louisiana College's Josh Johnson led all scorers with 24 points in the game. The Wildcats (0-1) were 10-of-21 from 3-point range but couldn't stop six Cardinals players from reaching double digits.

The Cardinals scored 20 points in the paint to Louisiana College's zero.
