BEAUMONT - The Lamar University volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 win over Northwestern State at McDonald Gym Friday night.
The win boosts Lamar's record to 14-10 overall and 12-3 in Southland Conference play, while the Lady Demons drops to 10-15 overall and 5-10 in conference play.
The first set the Lady Cardinals jumped out to a 21-15 lead, but Northwestern State rallied back to within three points at 24-21, but could get no closer than three points as Lamar won 25-22. Kaci Brewer led LU with nine kills and a .900 hitting percentage.
The Lady Cards dominated in the second and third set, closing out the match with a 25-14 win in set two and finished off the Lady Demons with a 25-17 win on set three.
Ashley Todd led the way for Lamar with a double-double, passing out 22 assists and 10 digs, while playing in just the second and third sets. Brewer provided the bulk of the offense for the Lady Cards, knocking down 17 kills with a .607 hitting percentage, while Lauren Holdorff had 10 kills and hit .333. Andrea Hamilton anchored the defense for LU with a match-high 16 digs.
The Lady Cardinals will be back in action on Saturday at 3 p.m. when they host SLC East division leader Central Arkansas. The match is the last of the regular season and will be the final match played at home by seniors Shalayne Blythe, Meagan Adams, Todd and Hamilton.
