HUNTSVILLE, Texas - The Lamar University volleyball team dropped a five set decision to Sam Houston State Tuesday night at Johnson Coliseum.
The Lady Cards opened the match slow, falling behind 11-5 before dropping the first set 25-19. The rallied back for a second set win with a 25-16 victory to tie the match at a set apiece, but could not hold the momentum as Sam Houston posted a 25-23 win in the third set after jumping out to a 16-6 lead.
The Lady Cardinals tied the match at two sets apiece as they cruised to a 25-19 victory in the fourth set, but again, could not hold on to the momentum in the fifth set. The Lady Cards jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead, but could not sustain the advantage as the Bearkats rallied for a 15-12 win to close out the match.
Lamar was led by Kaci Brewer who posted her third straight double-double with 15 kills and 11 digs, while Shalayne Blythe added 13 kills with a .545 hitting percentage. Adrianne Meengs passed out 33 assists and Ashley Todd dished out 13, while the LU defense was led by Andrea Hamilton's 23 digs and Genevieve Gladle's 13.
The Lady Cardinals will be back in action on Friday night when they host Northwestern State at McDonald Gym at 7:00.
