CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Lamar University volleyball team rolled to their seventh straight win with a 3-0 victory over the Texas A&M Corpus Christi Islanders Friday night at Moody Fieldhouse.
The win improved the Lady Cards season record to 11-8 overall and 9-1 in Southland Conference play, while Corpus Christi falls to 3-17 overall and 1-9 in league play.
The Lady Cardinals opened the match with a quick 25-18 win and grabbed full control with a 25-20 win in set two.
Set three proved to be a little more of a challenge as the Islanders pushed LU down the stretch. The Lady Cardinals came out on top though, prevailing 30-28 to claim the match.
Genevieve Gladle led the way for Lamar, knocking down eight kills and collecting a team-high 11 digs, while Kaci Brewer led LU with nine kills. Meagan Adams finished with eight kills for the Lady Cards, while the setting duties were shared by Ashley Todd and Adrianne Meengs who passed out 22 and 11 assists respectively.
The Lamar offense proved to be too much for TAMUCC to handle, posting a hitting percentage of .264 for the match, while the Islanders managed to hit just .157.
The Lady Cardinals will be back in action on Saturday afternoon when they take on the Roadrunners of UTSA in San Antonio, Texas at 2 p.m.
