Kaci Brewer had 10 kills and seven digs as Lamar cruised past Southeastern Louisiana 3-0 at McDonald Gym on Saturday.
Lamar won its fourth-consecutive match while it improved to 8-8 overall and 6-1 in Southland Conference play in setting up a big weekend with road matches at arch-rival McNeese State on Friday and league-leader Stephen F. Austin on Saturday.
Genevieve Gladle had nine kills and Shalayne Blythe added seven.
With the score tied at 13-13, LU rattled off four of the next five points to take a 17-14 lead. They extended their lead to 23-19 before holding on for a 25-23 win. The set had nine ties and three lead changes as SLU outhit LU .294-.250.
Lamar took control of the second set after falling behind 8-6, scoring four-consecutive points and nine of the next 11 en route to a 25-20 win. Ashley Todd and Blythe were in on two of Lamar's three blocks as the Lady Cards hit .324 and held the Lions to a .100 hitting pct. Andrea Hamilton had nine of her match-high 15 digs in the third.
The Lady Cardinals found themselves on the short end of another 8-6 score in the third set and this time used a 10-3 run to put the set out of reach at 16-11. LU pushed the lead to as many as eight three times including the 25-17 final score. The Lamar defense was strong in set three in holding SLU to a match-low .034 pct.
SLU dropped to 7-10 and 2-5 and was led by Kalynn Evans' 10 kills and eight digs.
