Lady Cardinal Volleyball Falls to TCU 3-0

FORT WORTH, Texas - The Lamar University volleyball team could not overcome a powerful offensive performance by Texas Christian University in their second match of the 2007 Molten/LaQuinta Inn Invitational hosted by Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas, falling 3-0.

The host Horned Frogs proved to be too much to handle offensively as they posted a team hitting percentage of .338 for the match, while the Lady Cardinals hit just .197. Despite their offensive struggles, the Lady Cards managed to keep the match close throughout the match, falling 30-26, 30-26, 30-26.

In game one TCU pulled ahead midway through the game and held on for a 30-26 win. The Horned Frogs hit .385 with 17 kills, while the Lady Cardinals hit .244 with 18 kills.

In game two the Lady Cardinals took a three point lead at 23-20, but TCU rallied to outscore Lamar 10-3 to close out the 30-26. The Horned Frogs continued their strong offensive play, posting a .390 hitting percentage behind six kills from Kourtney Edwards while LU struggled to a .159 hitting percentage with eight errors.

In game three TCU jumped out to a 19-10 lead, but Lamar rallied back to close the gap to one point at 23-22, but could not complete the comeback, falling 30-26. Edwards was again provided the offensive firepower for TCU, knocking down six kills with a .556 hitting percentage.

For the match the Lady Cardinals were led by sophomore setter Adrianne Meengs who posted a double-double with 10 kills and 32 assists. Defensively Lamar was led by freshman Destiny Mason's 17 digs while junior libero Andrea Hamilton added 15 digs.

The Horned Frogs were led by Lauren Otto's 16 kills while Edwards chipped in 15. Setter Nirelle Hampton passed out a match-high 47 assists, and Calli Corley led the way with 20 digs.

The Lady Cardinals, who went 1-1 on day, will return to action on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. when they take on the University of New Orleans. They will close out the day with a 2 p.m. match against Denver.
