Hammond, La. - The Lamar University volleyball team notched their sixth straight victory Saturday afternoon, defeating the Lady Lions of Southeastern Louisiana in Hammond, La.
The Lady Cards improve to 10-7 on the season and 2-0 in Southland Conference play with the win, while Southeastern falls to 6-5 overall and 0-2 in conference play. The six-match winning streak is the longest consecutive win streak for an LU team since the 2004 season.
Game one proved to be the closest of the three on the day, with the Lady Cards pulling away late in the game to post a 30-23 win. After taking the opener, the Lamar wasted little time in games two and three, closing out the match 30-16 and 30-18.
The Lady Cardinals were led by Kaci Brewer and Destiny Mason who combined for 21 kills, while the team as a whole hit a blistering .368 for the match. Brewer notched 11 kills and Mason tallied 10 kills, while Molli Abel added eight kills with a /538 hitting percentage. Shalayne Blythe and Courtney Mitchell each registered seven kills, with Blythe matching Abel's team-high .538 hitting percentage.
Adrianne Meengs continued her strong play for the Lady Cards at the setter position, dishing out 28 assists, knocking down eight kills and scooping seven digs. The Lamar defense was led by Andrea Hamilton, who picked up a match-high 23 digs.
While the Lady Cardinals offense was hot, the Lady Lions could not get their offense in sync, due in large part to the tough serving by Lamar. Southeastern posted a .150 hitting percentage for the match, led by Lauren Mayer and Emily Jordan who each registered 10 kills.
The Lady Cards will be back in action on Thursday night when they take on the Sugar Bears of Central Arkansas at 7:00 in Conway, Ark.
