BEAUMONT - The Lamar University volleyball team completed a sweep of the PROS Home Healthcare Invitational on Saturday, winning a pair of matches over Jackson State and UC-Riverside. The Lady Cardinals did not drop a game in either match, winning 3-0 both times.

The Lady Cardinals started the day by blanking the Tigers of Jackson State 30-18, 30-17, 30-25. Lamar was led by Kaci Brewer's eight kills while Lauren Holdorff and Molli Abel each tallied seven kills. Adrianne Meengs posted a double-double with 40 assists and 11 digs, while Lauren Rush picked up 10 digs.

As a team the Lady Cardinals hit .239 for the match, led by Abel and Brewer who posted hitting percentages of .500 and .438 respectively. Lamar also had a solid performance at the net, posting 11 blocks as a team.

In their second match of the day the Lady Cards capped the day with a 3-0 win over the UC-Riverside Highlanders 30-21, 30-24, 30-28.

The Lady Cards were led by Abel's 14 kills with a .684 hitting percentage, while Brewer knocked down 13 kills. Meengs had a solid match setting, passing out 46 assists and collecting10 digs. Hamilton led the way defensively with 18 digs while Destiny Mason added 14 digs.

As a team the Lady Cards hit .261 for the match, while Riverside hit just .107.

For her strong play during the weekend, Abel was named the tournament most valuable player after averaging 4.33 kills with a .433 hitting percentage and 1.33 blocks per game. Rounding out the all tournament performers for LU was Brewer and Hamilton.
