BEAUMONT - Despite outshooting the University of Central Arkansas 13 to 11, the Lamar University soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision Friday night at Cardinal Stadium.
The Lady Cardinals, who fall to 0-9 overall and 0-1 in Southland Conference play with the loss, host league leader Northwestern State on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. The Sugar Bears improve 4-5 on the year, and 1-0 in conference play.
Central Arkansas' Sara Curry broke a 0-0 tie sixteen minutes into the second half, scoring an unassisted goal. Lauren Carter added to the UCA lead with another goal, just two minutes and seven seconds later. Carter's goal came on a cross from Cori Kiplinger, setting up a strike from in front of the goal.
The Lady Cardinals out shot the Sugar Bears 13 to 11, marking the first time this season they have attempted more shots than their opponent. Five of LU's shots were on goal, while six of the shots taken by UCA were on goal.
Beth Squires led the offensive attack for Lamar with two shots on goal, while Keally Nussle, Kari Melancon and Aline Pugliesi each had one shot on goal. Goalkeeper Kelsie Binetti had four saves in the match.
