Beaumont - Lamar University continues to improve its offensive chances, but still came out on the losing end of a 5-0 decision to visiting Sam Houston State in Southland Conference women's soccer action at Cardinal Stadium Friday night.
Lamar dropped to 0-15 overall and 0-6 in SLC play, while Sam Houston improved to 4-9 overall and 2-4 in the conference. The Lady Cardinals host Stephen F. Austin Sunday at 11 a.m. for their final home game of the 2007 season.
The Lady Bearkats took a 2-0 lead into the half as they outshot Lamar 8-7. Alison Oakland, assisted by Luana Miessa, opened the scoring for Sam Houston with a goal at 3:32, followed by Yoanna Garcia's unassisted goal at 6:23.
In the second half, Sam Houston added three more goals as Raquel Bueno scored at 52:58 and Luana Miessa drilled scoring shots at 86:56 and 87:57. Sam Houston outshot the Cardinals 17-14 and 10-5 in shots on goal. The Lady Bearkats also had three corner kicks to Lamar's two.
Stefani Turner, a freshman from Corpus Christi, led the Lady Cards with six shots and two shots on goal. Goalkeeper Kelsie Binetti had five saves and five goals against.
