SULPHUR, La. - With the top spot at in the Southland Conference East division up for grabs, the McNeese State Cowgirls made a statement by handing the Lamar University volleyball team a 3-0 loss at the SPAR Aquatic Center in Sulphur La.
The Cowgirls opened the match with a 30-26 win in game one and took a 2-0 lead into the break with a 30-25 win in game two before closing out the match with a 30-20 win.
The loss drops Lamar to 2-1 in conference play and 6-12 overall, while McNeese improved to 3-0 in SLC play and 4-9 on the year. It was the second win of the season for McNeese over the Lady Cardinals.
Lamar was led by Freshman Ariel Drake's 12 kills and .632 hitting percentage, while Buchi Okoh added 11 kills for the Lady Cardinals. Ashley Todd passed out 27 assists and Adrianne Meengs added 10 for LU, while Alex Brink led the Lady Cards with 10 digs.
Lady Cardinal volleyball will be in action again when they travel to Nicholls State and Southeastern Louisiana for SLC East matches on Friday October 6, and Saturday October 7.
