BEAUMONT - The Lamar University volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders Friday night in Corpus Christi.
The Islanders, who improved to 7-16 overall and 6-7 in Southland Conference play, asserted themselves early in the match with a 30-19 win in game one. The Lady Cardinals and Corpus Christi battled through game two, but Lamar fell 30-27 giving TAMU-CC a two game lead. The Islanders finished off the match in game three, posting a 30-22 win.
The loss dropped Lamar to 11-18 overall, and 6-7 in SLC play.
Buchi Okoh was the only Lady Cardinals to register double digit kills, as she knocked down 12. Ashley Todd passed out 22 assists for LU, while Kaci Brewer and Andrea Hamilton each added 14 digs to lead the defensive effort.
As a team the Lady Cardinals hit just .015 for the match, while the Islanders managed to post a .169 hitting percentage.
Lamar volleyball will be in action again Saturday afternoon when they take on UT-San Antonio at 4 p.m. in San Antonio.
