BEAUMONT - In the final home match of her career, Lamar University senior Buchi Okoh narrowly missed a double-double in the Lady Cardinals 3-1 win over the Southeastern Lady Lions Saturday afternoon in the Montagne Center.
The Lady Cards improved to 13-19 overall and 8-8 in Southland Conference play with the 30-28, 27-30, 30-27, 30-24 win, while Southeastern finished their season with a 4-27 overall record and a 0-16 mark in SLC play.
Lamar opened the match with a 30-28win in game one and Southeastern Louisiana answered back with a 30-27 win in game two to even the match at a game apiece heading into the break.
After the intermission the Lady Cardinals began to take control, picking up a 30-27 win in game three. In game four Lamar opened up a big lead and cruised to a 30-24 win to close out the match.
Okoh led the way for Lamar with 12 kills and nine blocks, while freshman Kaci Brewer posted a double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs. Freshman Adrianne Meengs passed out 37 assists while sophomore Andrea Hamilton picked up 24 digs and freshman Alex Brink scooped 11 digs.
The Lady Lions were led by Brittany Pomes' 16 digs. She was one of five players for Southeastern to finish with double digit digs. Setter Maddie Beebe passed 58 assists and libero Erin Miles picked up 27 digs.
The Lady Cardinals will be in action again next Friday in the opening round of the Southland Conference tournament in San Antonio.
