BEAUMONT - The Lamar University volleyball team was taken down 3-0 Tuesday night, falling to the McNeese State Cowgirls at the Montagne Center.
The Cowgirls opened the match with a 30-24 win to take an early advantage. Trailing McNeese 21-17 in game two, the Lady Cards put together a five-point run to take a 23-21 lead and looked ready to tie the match at one game apiece. The Cowgirls however rattled off nine straight points to close out game two 30-23 and take control of the match.
The two teams battled through game three, and McNeese finally edged Lamar 32-30 to claim their third victory over the Lady Cards this season. McNeese improved to 9-12 on the year and 7-3 in Southland Conference play, while Lamar fell to 9-16 and 5-5.
Lamar was led offensively by Buchi Okoh's 14 kills with a .419 hitting percentage, while Adrianne Meengs posted her second straight double-double with 26 assists and 10 digs. Andrea Hamilton led Lamar in digs, collecting 23.
Stephen F. Austin was led by Tiffany Baker's 17 kills, Sarah Cartie passed out 43 assists and Jessica Strama collected 18 digs.
The Lady Cardinals will be in action again Friday night, when they take on Central Arkansas at 7 p.m. in Conway, Ark.
