Lady Cards Dropped by Stephen F. Austin 86-60

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Lamar University women's basketball team had a their two game win streak snapped Saturday afternoon, falling to the Ladyjacks of Stephen F. Austin 86-60 at Johnson Coliseum in Nacogdoches.

Lamar trailed SFA 28-14 with 6:33 to play in the first half, after LaToya Carson sank a free throw. The Lady Cardinals would score just six more points in the opening half, as the Ladyjacks went on an 18-6 run to close out the half.

Lamar quickly answered SFA at the beginning of the second half, trimming the Ladyjack lead to nine points with 16:11 to play, but Stephen F. answered the LU run with a 12-5 run of their own, to go up 18. The Lady Cards would get no closer than 16 for the rest of the game, as controlled the game on both ends of the floor.

The Lady Cardinals struggled on the offensive end of the floor, turning the ball over 24 times in the ballgame, while SFA out rebounded Lamar 38-34. The Ladyjacks shot 50 percent from the floor for the game, and the Lady Cards sank 39.9 percent of their shots.

Carson led all scorers in the game with 20 points, while freshman Janique Garrett scored a career-high 11 points for the Lady Cardinals.

Stephen F. Austin was led by Brittany Vinson's 19 points, while Charity Egenti and Jamie Ansley scored 14 and 11 points respectively.

The Lady Cardinals will be in action again next Saturday night when they take on the Cowgirls of McNeese State at 7 p.m. at the Montagne Center..
