OXFORD, Miss. - The Lamar University volleyball team dropped two matches at the Magnolia Invitational Saturday, falling to Lipscomb 3-2 and the University of Texas 3-0.
After dropping the first to games of their match against Lipscomb 30-27, 30-26, the Lady Cards pulled their way back into the match with 30-22 and 30-28 wins in games three and four. Lipscomb however pulled out the win, grabbing game five 15-12 for their first win of the season.
Lauren Rush led Lamar with 19 kills and a .500 hitting percentage, while Buchi Okoh and Kaera Baltrip added 18 and 11 kills respectively. Ashley Todd had 57 assists for Lamar and Erica Brown led the Lady Cards with 20 digs.
In their second match of the day, the Lady Cards fell to the University of Texas in three games, falling 30-16, 30-28 and 30-19.
The Lady Cardinals will now enter Southland Conference play with a 1-10 record, heading to Natchitoches, La. Friday night at 7 p.m. when they take on the Northwestern State Lady Demons.
