HAMMOND, La. - Behind the strong play of senior Nikki Perry, the Lamar University volleyball team picked up a 3-1 win Saturday afternoon at Southeastern Louisiana and improving to 5-8 in Southland Conference play and 7-18 overall.
Perry led Lamar with a career-high 24 kills and 10 digs, while adding two blocks.
"This was a big match for us and Nikki stepped up and did exactly what a senior is supposed to do," head coach Justin Gibert said. "We've had some injuries and she has picked up the slack for us. She is playing phenomenal ball right now, probably the best volleyball of her career. Without Nikki Perry, we don't win this match."
The Lady Cardinals started the match with a 30-28 win, despite hitting .096 to Southeastern's .154. The Lady Lions tied the match at a game apiece in game two, running away from Lamar for a 30-25 win.
After the intermission, the Lady Cardinals took control of the match with a 30-23 win, and finishing off the match with a 30-27 win.
Perry was not the only Lady Cardinal to have a big match, setter Ashley Todd also had a double-double, passing out 55 assists and 11 digs. Buchi Okoh added 17 kills and a .364 hitting percentage, while Lauren Rush put down 14 kills.
Defensively the Lady Cardinals were led by Alyssa Parks who collected 26 digs, while Erica Brown picked up 18 digs.
The Lady Cardinals will be in action again Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m., when they host UT-Arlington in the Montagne Center.
