THIBODAUX, La. - The Lamar University volleyball snapped a four match skid Friday night with a 3-0 win over the Nicholls State Lady Colonels in Thibodaux.
Lamar and Nicholls battled through all three games, with the Lady Cardinals edging NSU in al three, 30-27, 30-28 and 30-25.
"It was a hard fought match tonight," head coach Justin Gibert said. "We really had to battle out there to get the win. This was a match we really needed to get, and the girls did exactly what they needed to do."
Senior Nikki Perry led the way for the Lady Cardinals with 13 kills and a .375 hitting percentage, while Buchi Okoh chipped in with 10 kills and a .316 hitting percentage.
"Nikki is really stepping up right now," Gibert said. "I think she is sensing her career winding down, and she is playing the best volleyball I have ever seen her play."
Setter Ashley Todd passed out 35 assists for the Lady Cardinals, and Alyssa Parks led the way defensively for LU, collecting 10 digs.
The Lady Cardinals will be in action again Saturday afternoon when they take on the Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions at 4 p.m. in Hammond, La.
