BEAUMONT, Texas - The Lamar University volleyball dropped their finals match of the regular season Saturday night, falling 3-1 to Sam Houston State at the Montagne Center.
The Lady Cardinals struggled in game one, falling 30-14, but began to find a rhythm in game two. Lamar pushed the Bearkats in the second game, before SHSU pulled out a 30-26 win, taking a two game advantage into the intermission.
In game three, the Lady Cardinals came out fired up, and took command of the game early. Lamar built an early lead, and held off a late charge by SHSU, for a 30-26 win.
The two teams battled back and forth again in game four, but another late surge by Sam Houston put the game out of reach. Sam Houston took game four 30-24, winning the match.
Lamar was led by senior Nikki Perry who knocked down 17 kills, while junior Buchi Okoh added 11 kills. Setter Ashley Todd passed out 39 assists for the Lady Cards, while Alyssa Parks collected 24 digs and Lauren Rush picked up 13.
The Lady Cardinals will be in action again next weekend, when they take on Stephen F. Austin in the Southland Conference tournament, hosted by UT-Arlington.
