BEAUMONT - Buchi Okoh pounded a career-high 25 kills and Molli Abel added 22 kills, but it was not enough to lift the Lamar volleyball team past Northwestern State, as the Lady Demons won a five-game Southland Conference contest Saturday night at the Montagne Center by scores of 20-30, 33-31, 19-30, 30-25 and 15-8.
The loss dropped Lamar to 9-21 overall and 2-16 in league play, while Northwestern State improved to 12-17 on the season with an 8-9 SLC record.
Okoh, a sophomore from Houston, finished the match with a team-high .340 hitting percentage and a match-high nine blocks. Abel, a freshman from Friendswood, recorded her fourth double-double of the year with 22 kills and 12 digs. She also equaled her career-high with eight blocks.
The Lady Cardinals dominated in games one and three, holding the Lady Demons to hitting percentages of .022 and .000, respectively. The remaining three games were extremely close, featuring 28 tie scores and 14 lead changes.
LU topped Northwestern State in almost every single statistical category, including decisive advantages in kills (74-60) and digs (73-62). Lamar also finished the match with season-highs in assists (67) and total team blocks (17.0).
Senior Ashley Hallagin, a native of Goodland, Kansas, recorded her fourth double-double of the season with a match-high 58 assists and 10 digs in her final collegiate home match.
Juniors Alisa Jackson and Nikki Perry each reached double digits in kills, with 11 and 12 respectively. Jackson also had a match-high four service aces. Freshman Alyssa Parks also recorded a match-high with 17 digs.
NSU was led by former Beaumont Ozen standout Whitney King who finished with 19 kills, two service aces and five blocks. Beth Freeland added eight kills and nine blocks, while Isabela Duarte had 17 digs, six kills, three service aces and one block.
