HOUSTON - Lamar freshman Molli Abel had a team-high 12 kills, but a strong offensive attack by the University of Houston was too much for the Lady Cardinals on Tuesday night, as the Cougars won a 3-0 non-conference decision 30-17, 30-18 and 30-23 at Yeoman Fieldhouse.
It was the third straight loss for Lamar, who fell to 8-20 on the year. The Cougars won for the fourth consecutive time, upping their record to 8-16 for the season.
Abel, a Friendwood HS graduate, reached double-digit kills for the 24th time this season, while adding six digs and two blocks in the match. Alyssa Parks, a freshman from Port Neches, led Lamar with 11 digs and sophomore Buchi Okoh chipped in with eight kills and two blocks.
Senior setter Ashley Hallagin had a match-high 25 assists on Tuesday night, moving her into eighth place on LU's all-time assist list with 1,595 for her career.
Houston was led by Loure Dews with match-highs of 15 kills and a .462 hitting percentage. Dews also notched a match-high six blocks. Two other Cougars recorded 12 kills each as UH finished the match with a .259 hitting percentage as a team.
UH's Jaci Gonzalez led all players with 23 digs and she added one service ace.
